Plant-based Plastic waste tracker
The Challenge
It is difficult to determine the exact location of plastic waste in rivers.
The Solution
River plants have the potential to act as natural plastic waste collectors. Plants in general emit fluorescent light in the process of photosynthesis. A map of rivers combined with a map of the process of photosynthesis could be helpful in locating river plants and consequently plastic waste. Another solution would be to train a neural network on pictures of plastic waste and let it search through satellite data focusing on rivers.
